Rescue Radio
RADIO.
Across the Middle East hundreds of domestic workers are forced into low paid work. Many are beaten, sexually abused, and have their passports taken by their employees. A leading Lebanese charity asked us to reach out to these people to tell them they were not alone and forgotten, and if they reached out to us by ringing our helpline, we would try to get them repatriated.
We developed a novel approach where radio ads for (supposedly for a theme park) were broadcast in Tagalog and Hindi over Lebanese radio. Lebanese listeners could not understand the words but the sound effects made them think these were indeed ads for a theme park, when they were actually carrying a serious message about domestic worker abuse, and telling those affected to get in touch with us.
In a pilot test, 4 Domestic Workers were repatriated back to Manila. Changing thier lives forever.
